A Community That Shows Up For Pets
At Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals, we see every day what it means to be part of a community that truly shows up for pets and the people who love them.
Whether it’s helping a worried pet owner afford urgent veterinary care, connecting people with pet food resources, or working alongside compassionate local businesses and organizations, our mission remains the same: making sure beloved pets stay healthy, safe, and with the people who care deeply for them.
This week, we’re sharing one powerful story of hope and relief, spotlighting helpful community resources, and cheering on local pups competing to become America’s Next Hometown Hound. Together, our community continues to prove that compassion has a ripple effect.
Why Our Mission Matters
Just a few days ago, we received an urgent call from a very worried pet owner we have been helping with veterinary financial assistance and pet food support. This young man has fallen on difficult times, but his love and devotion for his dog, Bruno, has never wavered. He works full time to make ends meet while doing everything possible to care for his best friend. After helping connect Bruno with care at Veterinary Urgent Care Center (VUCC) Plymouth, we checked in to see how things went.
This was the heartfelt response we received from Bruno's dad:
"OMG . . . you are amazing. I feel I learned a lot of valuable information from that visit. I guess Bruno’s eyes aren’t producing enough tears and he had a little tear in one eye; so now we have him on three different eye medications. Found out the blood in the urine is normal after a neuter, he isn’t septic, and his vitals all came back good.
It feels so good to finally feel like I’m getting somewhere. It has been so discouraging these past few months. I absolutely loved it there. They were very informative and I really feel the most confident I’ve felt about the steps they gave me to finally get Bruno feeling happy again.
There’s no possible way for me to begin to explain the level of thankful that I truly am."
Stories like this are exactly why our mission matters.
The people we help love their animals deeply. They are doing the very best they can while facing unexpected hardships and rising costs. Sometimes all someone needs is a little support, guidance, and reassurance during a crisis.
Because of the generosity of our community, we are able to continue stepping in during these critical moments. Every donation, volunteer hour, shared resource, and act of kindness helps local pets like Bruno receive the care they deserve and gives pet owners hope during overwhelming times.
Together, we are keeping pets healthy, cared for, and home where they belong.
Helping Keep Pets Fed And Healthy
As we see in stories like Bruno’s, support at the right moment can make all the difference — and knowing where to turn matters. One of the most important parts of our mission is making sure pet owners know they are not alone, and that there are resources throughout our community to help keep pets fed, healthy, and at home.
We are grateful to connect local pet owners with valuable programs like the MSPCA Pet Food Pantry, which provides supplemental pet food support for those facing financial hardship. These resources help ensure pets stay fed during difficult times, preventing heartbreaking surrender situations and easing financial stress for pet owners already struggling to make ends meet.
The MSPCA also offers access to affordable veterinary care resources, including low-cost spay and neuter programs that help prevent future medical and financial challenges.

Does Your Dog Have What It Takes to Be America’s Next Hometown Hound?
You may remember we’ve shared about this beloved community tradition before — but for those who are new to it, America’s Hometown Hound is an annual celebration hosted by Just Around the Corner Petsitting that honors local dogs and the joy they bring to our lives.
Since debuting in 2020, it has grown into a local favorite, with hundreds of dogs competing for the title of America’s Next Hometown Hound — and last year alone, more than 65,000 votes were cast as supporters rallied behind their favorites.
Now it’s time for reigning hometown hound Samson to pass the torch to the next lucky winner.
This year’s winner will be crowned at the first-ever America’s Hometown Hound Festival on Saturday, June 13th, 2026 at Nelson Memorial Park.
We are especially excited that Just Around the Corner is partnering with Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals for this year’s event for this year’s event, with a portion of proceeds helping support local pets and pet owners in need.
And now for the important part — we need your entries and your votes! If you’ve been thinking about entering your dog, this is your reminder that entries close May 16th. Don’t miss your pup’s chance at hometown hound glory!
