Let’s Make May Matter!

May is almost here—and we’re hitting the ground running.

We’re off to the races with Alden Park Restaurant's Kentucky Derby Party fundraiser on May 2nd, followed by community events, pantry updates, and plenty of ways to support local pets.

It’s the kind of month where showing up—whether in person, through a donation, or by spreading the word—turns directly into food in bowls, support for pet owners, and real impact where it matters most.

Pet Food Pantry Update: Same Mission, New Day!

We’re making a small but important update to our pet food pantry schedule to help us serve pet owners even better.

Our pet food pantry at the Center for Active Living (the CAL) will now be held on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM, continuing on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.

Be sure to mark your calendars for May 6th and May 20th as our first pantry dates under the new schedule.

While the day and time is shifting, the mission stays exactly the same—making sure local pet owners have reliable access to the food and supplies they need to keep their pets healthy and at home.

The Derby Party Is Almost Here!

Thank You to Alden Park Restaurant For Selecting Helping Hands As Their Recipient Nonprofit This Year!

Helping Hands joins an impressive group of vital local charities who have been beneficiaries of this Alden Park fundraiser over the past 15 years, some of whom are:

- Plymouth Area Coalition

- The Joshua Glynn Foundation

- Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth

- Old Colony YMCA - Plymouth

- Boys and Girls Club of Plymouth Ma

- Manomet Youth Center

- Plymouth Youth Foundation

The countdown is on— the event is just one week away. And this isn’t just another fundraiser for us, it's an opportunity to reach more people to let them know about our mission.

That alone makes this moment a big deal. It’s the kickoff of something new, fun, and impactful—and we’re pulling out all the stops to make it a day worth remembering. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, this is your final call.

Saddle Up For Sponsorship Opportunities

Along with recognition at the May 2nd event, sponsors will also be featured as named supporters of our CAL pet food pantry—helping directly fund ongoing food assistance for local pet owners.

We’re currently seeking sponsorships at $250 (covers 1 week of the CAL pet food pantry) and $500 (covers 2 weeks), with a deadline to join by Tuesday, 4/28 at noon.

We’re building a full day of energy and celebration, including amazing silent auction items, fantastic raffle prizes, a 50/50 drawing, the "Wheel of Wunder" mystery prize spinner, a hobby horse decorating contest, Derby squares, and plenty of surprises throughout the day to keep things moving.

This event is about more than just a fun day out—it has a real purpose behind it. This year’s Alden Park Derby Party Fundraiser directly supports Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals, helping fund our pet food pantries and veterinary assistance programs. Every ticket, donation, and sponsorship helps pet owners in our community keep their pets fed, healthy, and right where they belong.

Touch A Truck Fun: Big Trucks, Big Fun, Big Impact

If you can’t make it to the Derby, there’s still a fun way to get involved this month!

On May 3rd from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM, we’ll be at the Old Colony YMCA’s Touch A Truck event at the Redbrook Plymouth Y spreading the word about our mission and collecting pet food donations.

This is a fun, family-friendly day where kids can explore big trucks, climb inside vehicles, and enjoy bounce houses, food, and activities—all rain or shine.

And while it’s all about fun, there’s also a chance to give back while you’re there. Bring a non-perishable food item for The Salvation Army or a pet food donation for Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals—helping support both people and pets in our community when they need it most. Every donation also enters you for a chance to win a free month of YMCA membership.

Pet Food Drive At The YMCA: May 4th–11th

We’re continuing the momentum with a week-long pet food drive at the YMCA from May 4th–11th.

Stop by our table, say hello, and drop off donations in our collection bucket. These drives are essential in helping us keep our three busy pet food pantries stocked and running strong.

Our most-needed items include dry and wet dog and cat food, cat litter, and treats—every donation goes directly toward helping local pet owners in need.

If you’d like to support from home, you can shop our wishlist or donate directly.

Here’s To A Meaningful May

Everything this month connects back to the same goal: keeping pets fed, cared for, and with the people who love them.

Whether you join us at the Alden Park fundraiser, stop by Touch A Truck, contribute to the food drive, or simply help spread the word, you’re part of making that possible.

May is going to move fast—but together, we can make it matter!
