Helping Pets Stay Happy, Healthy & Home

In honor of National Pet Month, we wanted to share a few reminders about the many ways we can help pets stay healthy, happy, and right where they belong — at home with the people who love them.

Whether it’s preventative veterinary care, emergency medical support, pet food assistance, or community fundraising events, every effort helps make a difference for local pets in need.

This week, we’re talking wellness tips, sharing an update on a brave kitty named Figment, and giving a sneak peek at our upcoming 6th Annual Golf Tournament this September!

Save the Date: Our 6th Annual Golf Tournament!

Get those clubs ready! Our 6th Annual Golf Tournament is happening Saturday, September 12th, and we’re already counting down the days.

Last year’s tournament was an incredible success, bringing together supporters, local businesses, golfers, and animal lovers for a fun-filled day that made a real impact right here in our community.

Thanks to everyone who participated, sponsored, donated, and cheered us on, the funds raised helped provide:

1 Day of Golf = 1,000+ Pets Fed & 30 Pets Received Veterinary Care!

That meant food in bowls, emergency veterinary treatment, medications, wellness care, and relief for pet owners facing difficult financial situations — all made possible through one amazing day of community support.

This year, we’re hoping to make the tournament even bigger and better! Now is the perfect time to:

→ Start thinking about your foursome

→ Explore sponsorship opportunities

→ Donate raffle or silent auction items

→ Help us spread the word

Every golfer, sponsor, raffle donation, and shared post helps us continue providing critical assistance to pets in need throughout our community.

We can’t wait to see everyone back on the course this September for another day of fun, fundraising, and helping local pets stay happy, healthy, and home.

Healthy Pets = Happy Pets!

In honor of National Pet Month, we wanted to share a friendly reminder that preventative care can make a huge difference in helping pets stay happy, healthy, and living their best lives.

Routine wellness visits, vaccines, dental care, proper nutrition, and preventative medications may not be the most exciting items on your pet’s to-do list… but they’re some of the most important! Staying on top of routine care can often help catch medical concerns early before they turn into larger (and more expensive) emergencies.

And remember — our pets can’t tell us when something feels wrong. Sometimes small changes like decreased appetite, low energy, hiding more than usual, or changes in behavior can be early signs that something needs attention.

A little prevention today can go a long way toward keeping tails wagging, whiskers twitching, and pets feeling their very best for years to come.

Tail Of The Week: Figment's Story

Recently, we were able to assist a sweet kitty named Figment after he became critically ill and required emergency hospitalization at VCA South Shore.

Figment was diagnosed with Feline Hepatic Lipidosis, commonly known as Fatty Liver Syndrome — a serious and potentially life-threatening condition unique to cats. The illness can develop when a cat stops eating for several consecutive days, especially in overweight cats, but any cat is susceptible to this disorder. As the body rapidly breaks down fat reserves for energy, the liver can quickly become overwhelmed.

Symptoms often include loss of appetite, rapid weight loss, extreme lethargy, and jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or gums). Without immediate veterinary treatment and supportive care, the condition can quickly become life-threatening.

Stories like Figment’s are an important reminder that even subtle changes in appetite or behavior can signal something more serious. Cats, especially, are very good at hiding illness, which is why early intervention and routine veterinary care are so important.

Figment’s medical bills quickly climbed into the thousands, and thanks to donor support, Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals was able to contribute $750 toward his emergency treatment. Thankfully, Figment is now back home recovering.

His owner shared this heartfelt message with us:

“OMG!!!! Thank you soooooo much I am so grateful, I don't have words for how thankful I am!!!! ❤️ I hope you have the best day and life and God blesses you as much as you have blessed me.
Thank you!!!”

Moments like these are exactly why community support matters. Every donation helps provide hope, relief, and lifesaving care for local pets and the people who love them.
