Summer Support For Local Pets

As summer gets underway, we're reminded that supporting local pets can take many forms.

From helping a pet owner facing an unexpected veterinary emergency to sponsoring a fundraiser that makes our work possible, or simply taking extra steps to keep pets healthy during the warmer months, every act of care helps strengthen the safety net that local pets and their owners rely on.

This week, we're sharing a quick reminder so you don't miss your chance to register for our golf tournament, a heartwarming success story, and a few simple tips to help pets stay happy, healthy, and safe all summer long.

A Quick Reminder: Golf Registration Is Open!

In case you missed it, registration is now open for our 6th Annual Golf Tournament taking place on Saturday, September 12th at Squirrel Run Country Club!

We know September may feel far away, but it will be here before we know it—and spots fill up quickly. If you're planning to join us for a day of golf, fun, and fundraising for local pets in need, now is the time to reserve your spot.

Take A Swing At Sponsorship!

Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to make a meaningful impact while helping local pets receive food, medical care, and other essential support.

Bogey Sponsor – $250
It may be one over par on the course, but this level is right on target when it comes to helping pets. Your sponsorship can help spay one dog or two cats through the MSPCA or support the Center for Active Living Pet Food Pantry for an entire week.

Birdie Sponsor – $500
Just like scoring under par, this sponsorship goes above and beyond. Your support can provide flea and tick prevention for up to 10 pets for a month or purchase 500 pounds of dog food.

Eagle Sponsor – $1,000
A rare score on the course and a rare impact for pets. This level can help fund emergency veterinary services for two pets or provide a month's worth of food for 10 cats.

 The "A" Game Sponsor – $1,500
This premier sponsorship delivers when it matters most. Your support can help cover the cost of a critical surgery for a sick or injured pet or provide enough kitty litter for 100 cats.

Whether you're a local business, a dedicated pet lover, or simply someone who wants to give back, becoming a sponsor is a wonderful way to support pets in our community while gaining visibility at this year's event.

Furry Friend Feature: Meet Rocko

When Rocko's mom found her senior Rottweiler mix unable to move his back legs and shaking uncontrollably, she immediately feared something was seriously wrong.

She quickly got him into the car and rushed him to Wareham Animal Hospital's urgent care clinic. Knowing an emergency veterinary visit would be difficult to afford, she reached out to Helping Hands for Animals for assistance.

Like many pet owners, Rocko's mom works hard to make ends meet and wasn't prepared for an unexpected veterinary expense. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to cover the entire cost of Rocko's examination and diagnostics, totaling less than $400.

Thankfully, the diagnosis was much better than expected. Due to age-related muscle loss and some dehydration, Rocko was experiencing significant pain and weakness in his back legs. With medication and treatment, he's already feeling much better and getting back to enjoying life.

Stories like Rocko's remind us why emergency veterinary assistance matters. Thanks to community support, we're able to help bridge the gap when unexpected veterinary expenses threaten to stand between a pet and the care they need.

Summer Fun Starts With Healthy Pets

Supporting pets doesn't always mean responding to an emergency. Sometimes it means focusing on the everyday habits that help keep them healthy, safe, and thriving. Here are a few simple reminders as we head into the summer months.

Movement Matters
Whether it's a morning walk, a game of fetch, or an evening stroll around the neighborhood, regular activity helps pets stay fit, supports joint health, and provides valuable mental stimulation.

Fuel Their Fun
Good nutrition helps power everything from playtime to healthy aging. Providing balanced meals and maintaining a healthy weight can go a long way toward supporting your pet's overall well-being.

Keep Up With Care
Summer is a great time to schedule annual wellness visits, stay current on flea and tick prevention, and address small concerns before they become bigger problems.

Beat The Heat
As temperatures rise, it's important to be mindful of how quickly cars and outdoor surfaces can heat up—even on days that don't feel extreme. A parked car can become unsafe for pets in just minutes.

Did You Know?

In Massachusetts, it is illegal to leave an animal in conditions that risk their health. Violators can face fines and, in serious cases, animal cruelty charges. The simplest rule is the best one: if your pet can't come inside with you, it's safest to leave them at home.

These small habits don’t just support a pet’s health—they also double as quality time, strengthening the bond between pets and the people who love them.

Support That Lasts All Summer

As always, thank you for being part of the Helping Hands for Animals community. Whether it's helping a pet receive urgent medical care, keeping food in a pet's bowl, or supporting programs that help pets stay healthy and safe, every act of kindness makes a difference.

Every bag of pet food distributed, every veterinary bill covered, and every pet helped is possible because of caring supporters like you. If you'd like to help us continue providing pet food assistance and emergency veterinary care for local pets and pet owners in need, please consider making a donation.

Together, we can continue making sure help is there when it's needed most this summer and beyond.
