Six Tails of September + A Sweet Way To Give Back!

Another month has quickly passed by, but in just four short weeks, the generosity of our local community has made an incredible difference. From rabbits to Huskies, every contribution—big or small—helped a pet receive care when it mattered most. Thanks to this support, pet owners didn’t have to face heartbreaking choices alone, and beloved companions were given comfort, relief, and in many cases, a second chance.

This week, meet a few of the pets you helped in September—and learn how you can keep making an impact (and enjoy a sweet treat while you’re at it!) in the months ahead.

Pets You Helped In September

Mr. Binks the rabbit was feeling under the weather, so his worried owner brought him to "Odd Pet Vet" at The New England Wildlife Center. Thankfully, his exam ruled out any serious medical conditions, bringing huge relief.

Dali the cat was extremely ill, and her senior owner didn’t have the funds for end-of-life services. Helping Hands stepped in to cover the cost of her humane euthanasia, giving Dali a peaceful goodbye surrounded by love.

Mimow the cat struggles with chronic urinary tract issues. His owner does everything he can to keep Mimow healthy, but at his most recent visit to urgent care he found himself short on funds. Helping Hands was able to split the cost so Mimow could get the treatment he needed.

Clover the Black Lab badly lacerated a paw pad and needed urgent care. When a few stitches came out, a follow-up visit was required, but her owner had already overextended his finances on the initial emergency trip. Helping Hands stepped in to cover the follow-up at Vetco Total Care Clinic, where Clover’s paw was carefully bandaged so she could heal safely and comfortably.

Bingo the Husky had a painful allergy hot spot and was overdue for vaccines. His owner, facing financial hardship, reached out to Helping Hands for assistance. We were able to contribute to Bingo's vet bill and get him feeling better.

In Memoriam: Diesel the Boxer

Diesel, an 11-year-old Boxer, first came to us in late 2024 when his mom, Kathy, noticed he was losing a significant amount of hair due to a severe skin allergy. While Kathy was able to cover most of Diesel’s veterinary expenses, the cost of his monthly allergy medication became too much for her to manage. When a pet has a chronic condition that can be improved with medication, Helping Hands sometimes provides ongoing support. We were able to help Diesel for several months, happily seeing him feel better and regrow his fur.

Sadly, we recently heard from Kathy that Diesel developed a fast-moving neurological condition and has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Rest in sweet peace, Diesel.
