Did you know George Washington was such a dog lover that he owned dozens throughout his lifetime? Some had names like Sweet Lips, Tipsy, Drunkard, and True Love!
Tail Of The Week: Bella & Sophie
Meet Bella and Sophie, two sweet dogs who recently got a very important fresh start thanks to your support.
Their owner is 75 years old and living on a fixed income through Social Security. Like many pet owners in our community, she loves her dogs deeply but had been putting off their annual wellness exams, heartworm testing, and vaccines because of financial challenges.
A local veterinary team recognized the need and connected her with Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals. Through that partnership, we were able to help Bella and Sophie receive the care they needed to get fully up to date.
Today, both dogs are healthy, protected, and ready to enjoy life alongside the person who loves them most—without the worry of overdue veterinary care hanging over their heads.
Stories like Bella and Sophie’s are exactly why this work matters. Sometimes a little help at the right time can make all the difference in keeping pets safe, healthy, and right where they belong.

Keep these tips in mind to help your furry friends stay safe while you celebrate!
Hold The Hot Dogs!
Cookout favorites like onions, grapes, chocolate, fatty foods, bones, and alcohol can be dangerous for pets. Keep party plates out of reach and stick to pet-friendly treats.
Beat The Heat!
If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for paws. Walk early in the morning or later in the evening, bring water, and watch for signs of overheating.
Don't Let Freedom Run!
Holiday guests coming and going can create opportunities for pets to slip outside unnoticed. Consider keeping pets in a separate room during parties or gatherings.
Fireworks Aren't Fur Everyone!
Fireworks and sparklers may be festive for us, but they can be frightening for pets. Create a quiet, cozy retreat indoors with familiar blankets, toys, and calming background noise.

Before the festivities begin, double-check that ID tags are secure and microchip information is current.
Remember: The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters due to lost pets. Taking a few simple precautions now can help everyone enjoy a safer celebration.
Paw-triotic Pet Fact #2
Massachusetts has its very own official state dog! The Boston Terrier earned the honor in 1979 and remains one of America's most recognizable breeds. Something worth barking about!
From Oops To Awesome!
When White Cliffs resident Sue Penchansky accidentally ordered a large bag of cat food from Costco, she decided to donate it to Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals rather than let it go to waste.
That simple act of kindness sparked something much bigger.
White Cliffs residents are now collecting unopened dog food, cat food, treats, and cat litter to help stock our free pet food pantries for local pet owners facing financial hardship.
Donations can be dropped off in the Golf Room, where Helping Hands volunteer and Board Member Diane Hufnagle will gather contributions and help deliver them to pets in need.
A small "oops" turned into something truly awesome—and that's what community is all about.
We're incredibly grateful to White Cliffs Cares, Sue, Diane, and everyone participating in this effort. Every donation helps keep pets fed, healthy, and with the people who love them.

Pets have been living in the White House for generations. Presidents have shared their homes with dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits, goats—and even a few unexpected animal companions over the years! From the White House to homes right here in Plymouth, one thing has always been true: pets make life better.
