New Year, Same Mission: Helping Pets In Need
As we welcome a brand-new year, we want to take a moment to restate why Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals exists and why your continued support matters so much.
Our mission is simple but powerful: to keep pets healthy, fed, and with the pet owners who love them, especially during times of financial hardship.
Through our three local pet food pantries and veterinary medical assistance program, we step in when unexpected challenges threaten the bond between people and their pets.
While the calendar may say “new year,” for many local pet owners, the struggles remain very real. Here’s what your support made possible—and why there is still so much work to be done.
When Emergencies Don’t Take a Holiday
While the holiday season brings joy and celebration, pet medical emergencies don’t pause. In just the past week, we received many calls for help.
Here's what those calls looked like:
🐾 A one-year-old kitty diagnosed with deadly pyometra who urgently requires an emergency spay.
🐾 An elderly pet owner facing the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to his beloved cat, needing compassionate euthanasia that his limited budget cannot cover.
🐾 A devoted dog mom who just learned her sweet seven-year-old dog has cancer and needs surgery. She reached out frightened, overwhelmed, and in need of both emotional support and financial assistance.
🐾 A previously happy and healthy six-year-old cat now fighting for his life in critical care at a local emergency veterinary clinic due to a severe intestinal blockage. His mom was given a $4,000 estimate for life-saving surgery.
In each of these cases, we do our very best to contribute toward the cost of veterinary care so these much-loved pets can receive the treatment they so desperately need.
Because of You, There Are Happy Endings
On a happier note, meet Zeke! His mom and dad reached out to Helping Hands last month when he became very ill. With proper veterinary treatment—and some assistance from Helping Hands—Zeke made a full recovery. Best of all, he was able to enjoy Christmas healthy and happy at home with his familly.
