How $150 Makes A Meaningful Impact For Local Pets

Our golf tournament has officially sold out, and thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, we're well on our way to another successful event. But there's still time to be part of it.

This week, we're showing you exactly how a $150 tee sign sponsorship makes a meaningful impact for local pets in need—you may be surprised by just how far it goes.

Then, we'll introduce you to a few of the pets whose stories show exactly what your support makes possible.

One Tee Sign. Lasting Impact.

Our golf tournament may be sold out (thank you!!), but there's still a meaningful way to be part of the day!

Sponsor a $150 tee sign to showcase your business, honor a beloved pet, celebrate a loved one, or simply show your support for Helping Hands. With more than 100 golfers and volunteers on the course, your sign will receive wonderful visibility throughout the tournament—and even better, you'll be helping local pets and the people who love them.

A $150 tee sign sponsorship begins on the golf course—but its impact reaches far beyond it. So, just how far does $150 go?

At Helping Hands, we work hard to make every dollar count. Our dedicated volunteers purchase pet food in bulk—averaging just 95¢ per pound for dog food and 87¢ per pound for cat food—and carefully package it into 5-pound pantry bags for local pet owners in need. That means every sponsorship helps even more pets right here in our community.

Here's What One $150 Tee Sign Sponsorship Can Provide:

Nearly 158 pounds of dog food, packaged into 31 five-pound pantry bags—enough to help feed 31 dogs!

Or more than 172 pounds of cat food, packaged into 34 five-pound pantry bags—enough to help feed 34 cats!

Or, when food isn't the greatest need, your sponsorship can help cover veterinary exams, medication, or emergency care
for a local pet.

Whatever inspires you to sponsor a tee sign, or other available tiers of event sponsorship, your support will help fill food bowls or provide veterinary care, giving hope to local pet owners when they need it most.

We're incredibly grateful to the businesses and individuals who have already committed to sponsorships for our 6th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser. Their generosity is helping make this year's tournament—and our mission—a success. We'd love to add your name to the list!

Meet The Pets Behind The Mission

The best part of sharing what Helping Hands does isn't talking about dollars—it's introducing you to the pets behind them.

Behind every sponsorship, tee sign, donation, and act of kindness is a pet owner who found hope during a difficult moment. Some stories make us smile, some bring us to tears, but every one reminds us why this community is so special. We'd love to introduce you to a few of the pets whose stories were made possible by the kindness of this amazing community.

Simba's Story

When Simba's owner reached out to Helping Hands, she was facing more than one challenge. Living alone and recovering from knee replacement surgery, she was relying on disability benefits when Simba suddenly became ill. Worried about how she would afford his veterinary care, she reached out after being referred to Helping Hands by the MSPCA, hoping someone could help.

Long-haired cats can face unique health challenges related to their thick coats, including excessive hairballs that can contribute to digestive blockages and respiratory issues. Simba's veterinarian determined he needed a medically necessary shave under sedation—a procedure known as a medical shave down, or "lion's cut"—to help relieve those risks and keep him healthy.

Thanks to the support of Helping Hands, Simba received the care he needed, and today he's breathing easy and feeling much more comfortable. His owner was incredibly grateful to see her beloved companion back to his happy, healthy self.

Sometimes, the right care at the right time makes all the difference.

Sophie's Story

Sophie was a sweet 12-year-old cattle dog whose owners have faced significant health and financial challenges. Her mom has been recovering from lung cancer and the effects of chemotherapy, while her dad is disabled.

Over the past several years, we've had the privilege of walking alongside Sophie and her family through some very difficult times. Earlier this year, Helping Hands assisted with the cost of surgery to remove a growth. Sadly, the diagnosis came back as malignant cancer.

Then, on July 21, Sophie's mom, Lisa, called us in a panic. During a walk, Sophie suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to the nearest veterinary hospital, but despite everyone's efforts, she passed away.

In one of life's hardest moments, Helping Hands was able to assist with Sophie's final transition, allowing her family to focus on saying goodbye without the added burden of unexpected expenses.

Not every story ends the way we hope. But being there for pet owners during moments of grief is just as important as celebrating the happy ones. Sophie will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Wednesday's Story

One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is hearing from pet owners long after a crisis has passed. Sometimes, months—or even years—later, an unexpected message arrives letting us know a pet is still doing well. This week, we received one of those updates.

When Wednesday was just seven months old, he faced a life-threatening urethral obstruction. Even after emergency treatment, urine and blood continued backing up into his kidneys. He urgently needed both an emergency neuter and a second surgery to widen his unusually narrow urethra. His survival depended on receiving immediate care.

Helping Hands was able to step in and help his pet owners afford the treatment he desperately needed.

Recently, we received this message from Wednesday's mom Hannah: "I just wanted to thank you again for helping me save Wednesday. He's doing well!"

Messages like this are why we do what we do. Stories like Wednesday's remind us that the impact of every act of kindness doesn't end with a single donation—it lives on in the pets, the people, and the community we serve. When pet owners reach out months and even years later to share how their pets are doing, we know we're building something much bigger than financial assistance—we're building lasting relationships rooted in compassion.

Kindness That Lives On

Whether you're golfing, sponsoring a tee sign, donating, volunteering, or simply cheering us on, you are part of every story we share.

This newsletter began with a simple question: How far can $150 go? We hope these stories answered it.

Together, we're creating healthier pets, hope for local pet owners, and a stronger, more compassionate community.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping kindness live on in our community.
